The Cyprus Registration Council of Speech-Language Pathologists (RCSLP), as the competent body for the protection and upgrading of the profession island-wide, is responsible for the registration and licensing of speech-language pathologists in accordance with the Registration of Speech-Language Pathologists Law of 2001 (L.136(I)/2001), as amended by Laws 55(I) of 2004 and 35(I) of 2021 (the Registration of Speech-Language Pathologists (Amendment) Law of 2021). The Registration Council constitutes the relevant authority for the establishment of the profession and a measure for the safety of the public.

It is unlawful to practice the profession and provide any related services without registration in the Register of Speech-Language Pathologists and a valid annual license to practice as granted by the Registration Council of Speech-Language Pathologists. The relevant licences must be renewed on an annual basis. The RCSLP maintains the country’s Register of Speech-Language Pathologists which constitutes prima facie evidence that the persons named therein are registered speech-language pathologists.

The Council works on the basis of scientific criteria and principles, so that Cyprus’s speech-language pathologists maintain a high level of qualification and continuing professional training. Continuing education in the scientific field of speech-language pathology is what defines the identity of the professional speech-language pathologist and the quality of the services provided in the Republic of Cyprus. In order to ensure this, the CSLP aims at integrating the relevant regulations required to enable the provision of the Law of 2021, amending the Registration of Speech-Language Pathologists Laws of 2001 and 2004 (Article 9/Paragraph 5), to be implemented. The aforementioned provision relates to the obligation of speech-language pathologists to collect 20 continuing education units, every three years, in order for them to be able to renew their professional license and practice the profession of speech-language pathologist.
